Hitting the reset button

When my second child was about eight months old I decided that it was high time I clawed my way back to something resembling my pre-pregnancy fitness. So I became a proud member of Fatties Anonymous and the arduous task of losing the baby weight began.  It worked initially. Thing is, restricting your calorie intake while trying to do serious training does not work. 

I’ve been feeling run down, have no energy and get sick at the drop of a hat. Poor nutrition has played a big role in this. So I’m on a mission to hit the reset button. I need to take a holistic view and make the necessary lifestyle changes to optimise my overall health and wellness. I’m super excited to be partnering with nutrition guru Patrick Holford to bring you an adaptation of his “Six weeks to Superhealth” program, in my attempt to do just that.

How it’s gonna work

Our program will run for four weeks: because moms are always trying to fit too much into too little time, right?! In all seriousness, I wanted to make it short and effective so I can stay focused and motivated.

Each week will have a different focus. Before four weeks is up we’ll have covered an energy supercharge, digestion tune-up, immune booster and ‘mood and memory improver’. Sounds good right? Oh, and its absolutely free. Now it sounds great!

I tend to overwhelm myself when I’m on a “health kick”; trying to do a complete 180 on day one. But this is seldom sustainable. The idea with our four week reset is to pick up one or two healthy habits each week and build on these through the program. In that way,  by the end of the month, you’ll have adopted healthy lifestyle habits that are part of your routine and easy to maintain.

Keeping Track

It’s important, before the start of any intervention, to have some kind of baseline (I’m still a physio nerd at heart!). While weight loss will not be the focus of this adventure,I’m hoping it will be a side effect, so the scale is one way to look at things. I wanted to go more holistic than that though, so I’ve used Patrick’s Health Questionnaires as a means for you to gauge where your health is at at the moment and to monitor how it improves. On signing-up, you’ll receive these questionnaires in your inbox. In completing them, you should get a good indication of the areas of your health that will benefit most from making this change.


What you’ll get on sign up

I’ve tried to make this as easy for you – and me! – as possible. I’m the type of person who needs structure and simple instructions to be able to stick to something. So this is the way we’re gonna do this thing. Along with your welcome email on sign-up, you’ll receive a program outline, a shopping list and a supplement list for the full four weeks. (You “townies” may shop weekly but this farm girl must plan a month ahead!)  Each week has specific supplements to help you achieve your goal for that week. They are all optional to continue to use throughout the program once you start them, but if you only want to use them in a specific week, you could team up with a buddy and share the expense if you prefer. 

Once signed up, you will receive an email each with a break down for that week and a print out that you can stick on the fridge to help stay you on track. Ticking off each glass of water you drink, for example, really helps to get the thing done!
